Waving Goodbye

For the sixth time you asked
if we knew how you fell in love
with your husband

but you had no problem,
oddly, recalling how to win
a game of Five Crowns.

I did worry a bit, though,
as you tottered to the couch
for your fourth nap.

Three sharp coughs
rattled in your lungs.
I doubt you really slept.

As we left, the two of us
were surprised to see you
smiling from the window.

One might well have wondered
to whom you supposed
you were waving goodbye.

About Greg Wright

I have worn many hats as a writer and editor over the years. Unlike my scholarly and journalistic work from the "old days" at Hollywood Jesus, Past the Popcorn, or SeaTac Blog, the writing here is of a more overtly personal and spiritual nature. I hope it provokes you as much as it provokes me.
