Trap Lines

How surprised I am
to so often discover
mice quickly dead
from forearms caught
in greedy grabs of Jif.
Rarely do they live
long and slow enough
for a patient attempt
at gnawing off a limb.
Wolves obviously have
slower metabolisms!

Silly mice.

Do they die of shock,
sheer embarrassment,
or outright boredom?
Have they not learnt
to build their own traps
outfit with Trex decks,
Costco tissue bundles,
Door-Dash pizza,
and endless Netflix?
There are more comfy
ways to cease to be.

About Greg Wright

I have worn many hats as a writer and editor over the years. Unlike my scholarly and journalistic work from the "old days" at Hollywood Jesus, Past the Popcorn, or SeaTac Blog, the writing here is of a more overtly personal and spiritual nature. I hope it provokes you as much as it provokes me.
