today i shaved the right side of my face first

as usual i puffed a bit of shaving cream
astride my left forefinger
looked in the mirror

and then clearly without thinking
daubed it over my right cheek
and raised the razor

then did i discover my act of re-volition
and in that moment of choice
i raked the stubble

rinsed remnants of whiskered cream
in the hot and soothing water
basking in the sink

afterward i re-examined my reflection
and fancied i saw a bit
of e e cummings

Yesterday, I shaved the right side of my face first.

About Greg Wright

I have worn many hats as a writer and editor over the years. Unlike my scholarly and journalistic work from the "old days" at Hollywood Jesus, Past the Popcorn, or SeaTac Blog, the writing here is of a more overtly personal and spiritual nature. I hope it provokes you as much as it provokes me.
